Are we really talking toilets?
I recently had friends visiting, and all they could talk about was their new Toto toilet. Yes, these are good friends who are intelligent people! I have always been a “keep it simple” person, keeping in mind costs for repairs and maintenance. Then I ran into another person raving about their Toto toilet, and I was convinced to visit Fergusons and see what all the fuss was about.
Smart technology has been making its way into our homes in various ways throughout the years. We have written about smart toilets before, but I never thought I would be buying them!
Toto is a brand I have heard about but never purchased before. If you ask your plumber (or if you go online for Toto reviews) you will find it is the most experienced and dependable toilet brand on the market. Apartment and hotel owners have sought out Toto toilets for their quality, performance, and value for years. Luxury toilets are their other specialty. They have something for everyone, from introductory ‘Washlet’ bidet seats to all the bells and whistles.
Toto has been in the toilet business for over 100 years, so they have had a lot of time to rethink the toilet. When you look at their designs and features, it becomes evident that convenience and elegance is their main goal. Selections include hands-free/paper-free functions (yes, spray and blow-dry), full bowl rinse, prewetting to avoid stains, automatic flush, full bidet features, heated seat, night light, air purifying system, and motion sensor open/shut. On top of all that, you can purchase a standard toilet that is set up to add features later on, or you can purchase the features you like from the start. It’s hard to find anything comparable.

Toto’s Drake is one of their classic models, which Toto has recently redesigned, giving its long-standing, hardest working toilet a beautiful, fresh look – perfect for any contemporary bath environment. This new Drake model utilizes Toto’s Tornado Flush System, which is able to reach every part of the bowl with its proprietary water propulsion system for 360-degrees of dynamic bowl cleansing action. Their porcelain is sealed to provide a super-slippery, non-porous surface that prevents waste and mold from sticking to the ceramic surface.
According to Ferguson’s store manager, Toto toilets are flying out of the store. And it’s no wonder, as they have contemporary design, luxurious features you can pick from (as few or many as you like to meet your needs or price point), are dependable and have a reputation for being maintenance-free.

For a smart toilet you will need a plug behind the toilet so if you are building new, I would suggest you add a plug behind every toilet just in case. If you are getting ready to replace a toilet talk to your plumber about the Toto brand and check with your electrician to see how best to add a plug.
It is fun to share with Hope Ranch readers our latest research. Once you have a look for yourself, I bet you will be buying Toto.
