Some of the more practical considerations when making flooring selections for your home or office space include the sound-reducing effects of carpet and its ability to minimizing the chances of slip and falls. Carpet can also improve air quality by reducing dust and allergen circulation compared to hardwood flooring. On a practical note, the product and installation costs for carpet is lower than other flooring options. You can use those savings to splurge elsewhere in your budget while still maintaining the look and feel you desire.
The type of carpet material is key
It is essential to understand the differences between the carpet materials to make sure the type you select best suits your needs. Some things to consider include anticipated traffic in the space, rolling a desk chair, ease of maintenance, and the style of fabric. Silk rugs are gorgeous, but stain easily. Wool rugs are very luxurious and soft but do tend to shed at the beginning after installation. Then there is texture including Saxony, twist/frieze, cable, loop, and cut and loop. The standard fabric choices include silk, nylon, polypropylene, polyester, wool, and advanced generation nylons (branded fiber). All these offer different attributes including choice of styles, color options, soil resistance, stain resistance and texture retention.
Current Trends
For 2022, the most popular rugs include antique, muted neutrals, animal hides and patterns (patterns also hide stains better), flat-woven rugs, and geometric patterns. Another current trend is layering rugs on top of the carpet. Layering a rug will not only protect the underlying carpet but can also add a splash of color if your wall-to-wall carpet is a neutral tone. You can also easily change the throw rug colors from time to time when you redecorate, without changing out all your carpet.
