The Ultimate Bathroom: Hits & Misses

The Ultimate Bathroom: Hits & Misses

When it comes to renovating or designing a bathroom, the details really do matter. Some features can elevate your daily routine into a luxurious experience, while others might not hit the mark as expected. Here’s an insider look at what made the cut for an ultimate bathroom upgrade and what didn’t, straight from a new homeowner’s perspective.

Luxuries That Transformed the Bathroom Experience

Heated Floors: Extending from the bathroom through to the closet and toilet room, heated floors have been a game-changer. There’s nothing quite like the comfort of warm tiles underfoot on a chilly morning. Also it heats the room so on cold mornings that is a plus if your house heat hasn’t kicked on yet.

Bathroom TV: Installing a TV in the bathroom was a stroke of genius for staying updated with the morning news without missing a beat in the daily routine.

Recessed Medicine Cabinet: A deep, recessed medicine cabinet equipped with multiple outlets has revolutionized bathroom storage and convenience, keeping essential gadgets like makeup mirrors, electric toothbrushes, and face scrubbers organized and powered up.

Drawer Plugs: Thoughtfully installed plugs inside drawers have streamlined the grooming process, keeping hairdryers and phones charged and ready to go without cluttering the counter space.

Outdoor Access: A door leading directly to the outside patio has added an unexpected and delightful dimension to the bathroom, blending indoor luxury with the freshness of outdoor living. Even better if the door has glass to view foliage.

Wall-to-Wall Mirrors: Expansive mirrors stretching from the counter to the ceiling have visually doubled the space while maximizing light, making every morning feel brighter.

Mirrored Dressing Doors: Integrating mirrored doors has brought the convenience and elegance of a dressing room right into the bathroom, enhancing both functionality and style.

Built-In Vanity Trash: A pull-out trash bin incorporated into the vanity counter has proven to be a subtle yet significant addition in lieu of having a visible trash can in your bathroom.

Shower Robe Hooks: Placing robe hooks inside the shower was a simple touch that added a surprising amount of convenience to the post-shower routine.

Features That Didn’t Live Up to Expectations

Rain Shower Head: The rain shower head, while luxurious in theory, fell short in practice. It lacks the direct pressure on your back.  I have ended up using the wall hung shower feature as my shower head.

Tub Deck Width: A tub with an overly wide slippery deck at the front of the tup proved more cumbersome than comfortable.  You have to do a two step exit by sitting on the ledge and then spinning around to get out.

One thing I didn’t do was a seating area or chair in the bath which would be a plus. I planned on using the tub deck ledge but it’s a bit cold and hard in the morning!

In the quest for the perfect bathroom, it’s clear that personal preference plays a pivotal role. While heated floors and hidden outlets have become non-negotiable luxuries, some features like the rain shower head might not make the cut in future designs. Ultimately, the perfect bathroom is one that caters to its user’s unique tastes and needs, blending functionality with indulgence.
