Drive Up Storage
Drive right up to your unit on our extra wide driveway aisles for convenient easy unloading of your items. Ideal for heavy large items, appliances, business inventory and auto storage. Extra high ceilings allow you to stack more and rent a smaller space.
Traditional Self-Storage
Interior storage units are sheltered from the wind and elements when you open your unit door and offer the interior finished hall floor for additional area to sort your items, all while listening to classical music. We also offer cedar-lined units.
Temperature-Controlled Self-Storage
Ideal for items sensitive to temperature changes such as furniture, electronics, documents and artwork. In Santa Barbara we can have a day with a high of 85° and a cool evening of 45°!
Mini Storage

Frequently Asked Questions About Patterson Storage
Do I need to have insurance when renting a storage unit?
Proof of insurance is required under your lease to protect your stored items. Often a client will have a homeowner’s policy or renter’s policy that will include items stored off premises. If you don’t have a policy or yours does not offer offsite item coverage, we offer a Protection Plan that can be purchased on a month to month basis at move in. Sometimes client will purchase our Protection Plan even when they have insurance as the Plan has no deductible and their home policy may have a high deductible.
Will my belongings be secure at your storage facility?
Patterson Self-Storage is equipped with video cameras inside and outside the buildings. Other security measures include electronic gate access, perimeter fencing, electronic-coded building entrances for client access only, staff on site walking the property, an on-site resident manager, and the property is well-lit so clients feel comfortable accessing their items in the evenings. Security is an important factor you should consider when selecting a storage center in Santa Barbara or Goleta.
Are moving supplies available for sale at your facility?
Yes, we offer a full box and supply moving store which can save you many errands. Our managers can help you pick out what is best for your items from bubble wrap to dish pack boxes. Visit our website to see the full list of the items we offer.
What documents are required when renting a storage unit with Patterson?
A valid photo ID and a current credit or debit card.
Where exactly are your storage facilities located?
We are conveniently located at 98 N. Patterson Avenue and 5325 Calle Real, right off Highway 101 at the Patterson Avenue exit right between Santa Barbara and Goleta in a residential neighborhood. Location is important. Some storage centers are located in industrial areas, and may be further from where you spend your time. Others are not centrally located right off the freeway for easy access.
Does Patterson Self-Storage have the size and type of space I need?
At Patterson Self-Storage we offer 5 types of spaces, Traditional Spaces, Temperature Controlled Spaces, Drive Up Spaces (including interior auto storage), Premium Spaces, and Saver Spaces.
To help determine what size might be best for you, visit the Storage Sizes page or call (805) 964-0924 so we can help you personally. You can also visit us during office hours at our 98 N. Patterson Avenue location or our 5325 Calle Real location if that’s more convenient for you. Our spaces have high ceilings ranging from 9′ to 15′ so you may be able to fit your items in a smaller space than you would at another center (for example if you want to store a 14′ kayak or an 8′ sofa, you can stand them on end in one or our smaller spaces with a tall ceiling and save money by utilizing the height)!
Is all self-storage in Santa Barbara and Goleta the same?
Storage centers range in age from brand new to 35+ years and will vary in the types of features available. For example, an older center may be built of wood, have no fire sprinklers, and require that items be carried upstairs, while newer centers are usually built of steel, fully fire sprinkled, and have hospital sized elevators. Cleanliness is also a big factor, so you should visit the storage center before you rent. Also find out if the center has had theft issues in the past.
