Modernism Week Palm Springs

We are working with Michelle Jensen, from Fergusons Bath, Kitchen, and Lighting Gallery on our current projects. Recently, when I was visiting their showroom (611 Montecito Street), they recommended that I attend Modernism Week in Palm
Springs, CA. I had never heard of it before, and I ended up attending for the first time last week. The event is held annually in February, and if you are thinking of remodeling, building a new home, or redoing your landscape and patios, this is the place to go for inspiration – even the pool designs were spectacular! It was definitely worth the trip.

Basically, sponsors such as Fergusons, take existing dated residences down to the studs and update them with the latest and greatest finishes and designs. This includes landscape and patio designs. Personally, I thought the landscape and flatwork were the best part for me… but seeing all the latest cabinet and countertop finishes, flooring, and tile work was also a complete treat. I saw for the first time robe hooks installed on shower glass! The home tours are set up on an hourly schedule, which are easy to get to and are a delight.

They also had tours of classic famous homes, and films you could attend about architects, interior designers, and interior product designers that were held right downtown at the Palm Spring’s Museum area at their theatre. There was a big tent structure that they call “Camp” with a bar, food station, and vendors displaying their products along with a gift shop with a fabulous selection of architecture and designer books. In the evenings under the “tent,” they had live music and cocktails for all attendees. They even had a prefabricated 495 sq. ft. home to see as an example for a guest house, office, or rental on your property under the new laws.

I hadn’t been to Palm Springs in quite a while, hotels are abundant, restaurants are great and the shopping was fun too. We could walk to the “tent,” to some of the design homes, and to dinner. If you go, you might want to stay in Palm Springs for the convenience to the events. Mark your calendars for next year, I am going back for sure!
